On Thursday, September 2, 2004 Borough President
Marty Markowitz endorsed Diane Savino for State Senate on the
steps of Borough Hall. Savino is a Democratic candidate for
the New York State Senate’s 23rd District which encompasses
the North Shore of Staten Island and portions of Brooklyn including
Bath Beach, Bensonhurst, Borough Park, Coney Island, Fort Hamilton,
Gravesend, Seagate and Sunset Park. Ms. Savino is seeking the
opened Senate seat currently held by Seymour Lachman who is
retiring at the end of this term.
“I
spent 23 years as a State Senator, and I know how hard it can
be to take on Joe Bruno’s Republicans and fight for Brooklyn’s
working families,” said Borough President Marty Markowitz.
“Although Diane Savino is from Brooklyn’s southwest
suburb – a.k.a. Staten Island – she is a strong
advocate for Brooklyn’s families and will fight hard to
improve the quality of life of all Brooklynites. On primary
day, I urge Brooklyn Democrats to support Diane Savino because
I am confident come November she will make Brooklyn proud as
our new State Senator.”
