On Thursday, May 27th, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz delivered greetings to attendees of the New York State Education Department’s Ninth Annual Awards Program, “Challenges and Possibilities: Commitment to Excellence for All Students.” The event was held at the Brooklyn Marriott.

Borough President Markowitz commended the schools that were honored with awards for their commitment to improving educational programs for their students. And he emphasized the importance of a quality education for all Brooklyn students.

“I myself am a proud product of Brooklyn public schools, at a time when a New York City public education was the best education in America,” Markowitz said. “And I consider it my top priority as Borough President to ensure that every one of today’s public school students has that very same opportunity to receive the quality education that I got—and that they deserve.”

New York City’s Schools Chancellor Joel I. Klein and New York State Education Commissioner Richard P. Mills were also in attendance.
