On
Sunday May 30th, Brooklyn Borough President Marty
Markowitz wished a “Kalo Taksidi” to Andonis Prikas
and Christos Katehis as they set sail from the Brooklyn’s
Miramar Yacht Club on a 10-week journey to Greece in honor of the
2004 Olympic Games.
Borough
President Markowitz applauded the gentlemen’s spirit of adventure
and presented them with proclamations wishing them well on their
historic journey.
“Brooklyn
and Greece have long been trans-Atlantic sisters,” said Borough
President Markowitz. “So I’m thrilled to make our bonds
even stronger with this historic trip between the place where democracy
was born so many centuries ago and the borough that got democracy
right today.”
Andonis
Prikas and Christos Katehis are sailing to Kerkyra, a town in Corfu,
Greece. Their plan is to travel across the Atlantic Ocean, through
the Mediterranean Sea, and north to the Ionian Sea. They will sail
on their 40-foot sailboat named “Adele.”
