DAVIS MEMORIAL TREE DEDICATION AT THE BROOKLYN BOTANIC GARDEN

Borough
President Markowitz and invited guests celebrate the life
and legacy of the late James E. Davis as a tree in the Brooklyn
Botanic Garden is dedicated in his memory. Pictured from

On Tuesday, July 20th, Borough President Marty
Markowitz joined Davis family members, members of the New York
City Council, Brooklyn Botanic Garden President Judith Zuk,
and Prospect Park Alliance President Tupper Thomas at a dedication
ceremony for the James E. Davis Memorial Tree in the Brooklyn
Botanic Garden. A “Liberty Oak” was planted as a
symbol of strength. The ceremony was sponsored by the Heart
of Brooklyn.
In addition to Borough
President Markowitz, several elected officials and community
leaders spoke of Councilmember Davis’ dedicated service
and his commitment to a better New York for all residents. The
speakers were: Council Speaker Gifford Miller, Councilmember
Letitia James, Brooklyn Botanic Garden President Judith Zuk
and Prospect Park Alliance President Tupper Thomas. Councilmember
Davis’s brother Geoffrey A. Davis spoke on behalf of the
family.
City
Councilman James E. Davis represented the 35th Council District
and strongly advocated for a better quality of life for all
Brooklynites and New Yorkers. Prior to joining the City Council,
Davis was a New York City Police Officer.
