On December 9, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz flipped the switch on the Plaza at Borough Hall to illuminate the spectacular 35-foot Balsam Fir Christmas Tree. Children and their families received a special visit from Santa, snacked on holiday sweets and enjoyed performances by the Brooklyn Youth Chorus.
“I would like to wish all Brooklynites and New Yorkers a Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and safe holiday season!” said Borough President Markowitz. “I want to thank the Brooklyn Terminal Market Merchants Association for donating this magnificent Balsam Fir tree, our dedicated Parks & Recreation staff for putting up the tree’s decorations and the MetroTech BID for their generous contributions. The holiday spirit is alive and well in Brooklyn, with Brooklynites reaching out across the borough to help those in need. During this holiday season, I offer a prayer that the peace and joyous spirit Brooklyn celebrates will spread throughout the world.”
“We are so pleased to be a part of Borough Hall’s celebration of the holiday season,” said Brooklyn Terminal Market Merchants Association President Vincent Piccione. “The Brooklyn Terminal Market has had a long tradition of community service and this is one more great opportunity to give back to the community.”
“The MetroTech BID is happy to join Borough President Markowitz for this holiday celebration,” said MetroTech BID Executive Director Michael Weiss. “The true spirit of Christmas and the holiday season is bringing cheer to less fortunate families so that they can have the happiest of holidays. It is important that the business community come together to show our loyal support to the Brooklyn community and bring joy, happiness and enlighten the spirit of the children in our borough.”
This year’s tree was donated by the Brooklyn Terminal Market Merchants Association and decorated by the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation. Borough Hall was decorated with support from the MetroTech BID and the fountains were decorated with assistance from the Target Corporation.
