On Monday, August 30, 2004, Borough President
Markowitz presented organizers of the Brooklyn Dominican Parade
with a proclamation declaring September 12 the “Fourth
Annual Brooklyn Dominican Parade and Festival Day in Brooklyn,
USA.” This year’s parade is dedicated to Business
People and the Dominican Childhood of Brooklyn. The parade’s
young queens joined the parade’s Founder and President
Estella Jimenez to accept the proclamation.
“The
annual Brooklyn Dominican Parade and Festival is another great
example of Brooklynites coming together to celebrate their heritage,”
said Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz. “We truly
are the home to everyone from everywhere.”
The 4th
annual Brooklyn Dominican Parade and Festival is scheduled for
Sunday, September 12, at 1:00 p.m. followed by a music festival
ending at 8:00 p.m. The parade will start on Broadway go down
along Graham Avenue and ending in Lindsay Park, in Williamsburg
Brooklyn.
Organizers
hope the parade will unite the hearts and spirits of the Dominican
and Latin American community. The goal of the parade is to transport
the hearts of those far from the native homeland of the Dominican
Republic back to their roots and together to celebrate the richness
of the culture.
The
Dominican Parade and Festival of Brooklyn, Inc. is organizing
the parade.
