BROOKLYN COUPLES’ FILM “OPEN WATER” COMES TO OVER 2,700 MOVIE SCREENS NATIONWIDE

1:00 PM
FRIDAY, AUGUST 20
UNITED ARTISTS COURT STREET STADIUM 12 CINEMA
108 COURT STREET
BETWEEN STATE STREET & SCHERMERHORN STREET
DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN

On Friday, August 20, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz will honor Chris Kentis and Laura Lau, the Brooklyn Heights filmmaking couple who created the frightening new smash hit movie Open Water. The film was shot off the coast of the Bahamas, but written and edited in Kentis and Lau’s shared Brooklyn Heights apartment on a shoestring budget. Following its hugely successful independent release, Open Water is opening in wide release this weekend on more than 2,700 screens nationwide — making it the biggest opening in the history of the film’s distributor, Lion’s Gate Films. Borough President Markowitz will celebrate the filmmakers as the newest legends in Brooklyn’s illustrious cinema history, and Kentis and Lau will speak and be available for interviews.
