On April 22nd, Borough President Marty Markowitz hosted Borough Hall's annual Commanders Breakfast, where he welcomed more than 50 police precinct captains from around the borough. Brooklyn South Chief Joseph Fox and Brooklyn North Chief Joseph Cunneen both attended, and they addressed the commanders.

Thomas K. Newell, Vice President of Con Edison for Brooklyn and Queens, spoke on behalf of Con Ed, the event's sponsor.

Markowitz asked the commanders to join his 2004 campaign to make respect Brooklyn's attitude, and told them that their police work to make Brooklyn safer had enabled the borough to grow economically, culturally and socially.

"Even for those that don't treat police with respect, the first place they turn when they're in trouble is the police department," said Markowitz. "If we work together to make respect Brooklyn's attitude, it will make your jobs easier and it will make Brooklynites' lives better."
