On April 17th, Borough President Marty Markowitz attended a street renaming in Dyker Heights. Bay 7th Street between Bath and Benson Avenues was renamed for brothers Andrew and Vincent Abate, both of whom died in the attacks on the World Trade Center.

Both Abate brothers were born and raised on the block in the South Brooklyn neighborhood, and both were bond traders on the 105th floor at the Cantor Fitzgerald firm in Tower One. At the time of the tragic event, Vincent was 40 and Andrew was 37.

Borough President Markowitz attended the memorial ceremony along with Councilmember Vincent Gentile. Markowitz expressed his condolences to the Abate family, and said he hoped renaming the street would help Vincent and Andrew's memory to live on.
