On Wednesday March 30th, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz hosted a celebration in honor of Greek Heritage Month at Brooklyn Borough Hall. At this second annual event, Borough President Marty Markowitz celebrated the rich history, heritage and culture of Greece, and honored extraordinary members of Brooklyn’s Greek-American community. The Greek Flag was also flown atop Brooklyn Borough Hall, throughout the week, as part of the celebration.
“Greek culture is alive and well in Brooklyn today,” said Borough President Markowitz. “And Greek Heritage Month is a reminder to us all to appreciate the connections between Brooklyn today and the Greece of Ancient times.”
At last year’s event, Borough President Markowitz honored Yvette Jarvis, a Red Hook native and a member of the Athens City Council. This year he honored Stella Panagakos, Stavros Haviaras, Beatrice Douvres, Kalliopi Demetriou, John Volandes, Peter Papanicolaou, and Saints Constantine and Helen Cathedral.
