BOROUGH PRESIDENT MARKOWITZ HAILS SALE OF 110 LIVINGSTON STREET

As Mayor Mike Bloomberg, Chancellor Joel Klein, and Deputy Mayor Dennis Walcott looked on, Borough President Marty Markowitz applauded the selection of Two Trees Management’s proposal for the redevelopment of the former Board of Education headquarters building at 110 Livingston Street.

“The selection of Two Trees Management sets in motion another piece of the residential component of Downtown Brooklyn’s ongoing development,” Marty said. “It follows the wave of housing development underway along the Hoyt-Schermerhorn corridor and at the former Court Atlantic garage site. One of the strengths of Downtown Brooklyn is its adjoining residential neighborhoods. New residential developments downtown will bolster the marketing of office space envisioned by the Downtown Brooklyn Development Plan.

“While I believe that 110 Livingston Street would have made a suitable site for office and mixed use development,” he added, “with the revenue generated for affordable housing from this sale, I anticipate another announcement for hundreds of affordable units along Myrtle Avenue, as part of the Downtown Brooklyn plan, and additional funds designated for affordable housing in many other Brooklyn neighborhoods. I look forward to working with the Administration to ensure the most effective use of these new affordable housing funds.”
