BOROUGH PRESIDENT ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF THE BROOKLYN BRIDGE TO THE WORLD AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST

Borough President Marty Markowitz announced today the photographers who captured the best and most unique photographs of the magnificent Brooklyn Bridge. The contest was held in conjunction with the Brooklyn Bridge to the World Celebration, a day-long civic and tourism initiative held in May to honor the 120th birthday of the world’s most famous bridge.
“This is yet another example of why Brooklyn is the most creative place on the planet,” Borough President Markowitz said. “These incredible images, captured by some very talented Brooklynites, help to express why our breathtaking bridge means so much to Brooklyn, New York City and to people across the world. It is a constant symbol of beauty, strength and vitality. These photos clearly indicate that the Brooklyn Bridge is only getting better with age!”The adult (18 and up) and youth winners (17 and under) will receive a new Nikon Coolpix 3100 digital camera or a Nikon N75 SLR film camera, and have their work featured on Best of Brooklyn postcards to be sold to benefit the Best of Brooklyn, Inc., a not-for-profit organization whose mission includes improving the quality of life for all Brooklynites, particularly our youth. All pictures were taken between May 24 and June 30, 2003. “Sponsoring the Brooklyn Bridge to the World Photo Contest was an ideal way for Nikon to support this historic anniversary,” said Anna Marie Bakker, general manager of communications, Nikon, Inc. “The Nikon Spirit Initiative represents Nikon’s commitment to our community as well as to furthering photographic excellence. We were happy to be a part of this celebration, which honored one of the most famous local landmarks that has inspired photographic expression and excellence for so many years.”
