Borough President Marty Markowitz brought together leaders of Brooklyn’s various religious communities to hear their issues and concerns, and to encourage more inter-faith dialogue. He hosted his first Brooklyn clergy breakfast last fall.
“If it were not for your leadership and commitment, Brooklyn would not enjoy the pride in our borough and the sense of brotherhood that unites us and continues to keep us going throughout these trying days,” Borough President Markowitz said. “My purpose in inviting you to Borough Hall this morning is to talk about keeping that sense of pride and brotherhood strong, now that we are at war, and the threat of terrorism at home is something we must live with every day. We represent many different faiths and ethnicities. Sharing our many cultures and customs, and working together for the common good is what makes Brooklyn such a wonderful place. The slogan on the seal of Brooklyn has never had more meaning: “in unity there is strength.” We learn from each other’s experiences, and there is an ever increasing need for us to share our knowledge and resources.”
Brooklyn South Chief Joseph Fox, NYPD Brooklyn North Inspector James O’Brien and NYPD Patrol Borough Brooklyn South Inspector Michael Cohen spoke about NYC security issues. Special Assistant to the Commissioner from the Mayor’s Office to Combat Domestic Violence, Tina Potter, also made a presentation.
