On New Year’s Day, Borough President Marty Markowitz donned his swimming suit in Coney Island to celebrate the Polar Bear Club’s 100th birthday. Ignoring the driving rain and water that was only 38 degrees, Marty and the world’s oldest winter swimming group took a refreshing dip to help ring in the New Year.
“The Polar Bear Club epitomizes what Brooklyn is all about,” said Borough President Markowitz. “Brooklynites are as tough as they come. And I promise to join the Polar Bears again in the water when they celebrate their 200th birthday!”
