BOROUGH PRESIDENT HONORS WNBC PRESIDENT & GENERAL MANAGER FRANK COMERFORD AS ONE OF BROOKLYN'S FAVORITE SONS
On November 25th, Borough President Marty Markowitz presented Frank Comerford
with a special Proclamation at a reception held at Brooklyn Borough Hall.
The Borough President, who likes to spotlight successful Brooklynites,
honored Mr. Comerford as one of the best Brooklyn has to offer and cited
Mr. Comerford's many contributions to the community.
“Frank Comerford is a product of Brooklyn’s school system,
and a testament to the community pride and family values we cherish in
Brooklyn,” said Borough President Markowitz. “Frank has been
a tireless volunteer, helping foster and at-risk children. Under his watch,
WNBC launched “Wednesday’s Child,” one of the most successful
programs in the nation to help place foster children in permanent homes.
He was named “Volunteer of the Year” by the Friends of Retired
& Senior Volunteer Program of the Community Service Society. As a
volunteer for G-E/ NBC’s Elfun program, Frank mentored an at-risk
high school student. And, he is soon to be honored for his work in the
child abuse prevention program founded by Marion White. It is my great
pleasure to honor my Brooklyn brother tonight; to thank him for his service
to Brooklyn; and to congratulate him on his success.”
Mr. Comerford was recently named president and general manager of WNBC,
the NBC flagship station in New York. He was promoted to the position
after serving as the executive vice president of sales and marketing for
the NBC Television Stations Division for two years. Before that, Mr. Comerford
served as the head of sales for WNBC, where under his leadership, the
station broke numerous sales records and surpassed the competition as
the top billing television station in the New York marketplace.
Mr. Comerford was raised in Bay Ridge, along with his nine brothers and
sisters, and still calls Bay Ridge home.
Jay Hershenson, Vice Chancellor of University Relations, CUNY, also spoke
about the many leaders in broadcasting who have graduated from CUNY schools.
