Photograph by Kathryn Kirk

On December 6th, Borough President Marty Markowitz brought his own personal flavor to his role as the character Herr Drosselmeyer during his stage debut in "A Brooklyn Nutcracker." The familiar favorite has been transported to a Brooklyn setting in the holiday production of the Tchaikovsky classic, featuring the Journey Dancers, guest performers and students and faculty from Brooklyn Music School. Seen on stage with the Borough President during Friday, December 6th gala opening night are Robin Osborne, the show's Artistic Director and some of the BMS students in the cast.

"Being Borough President put me on a pretty big stage already, but performing in "A Brooklyn Nutcracker" was a special thrill,” said the Borough President. “I'm definitely not going to win a Tony award, but the I do know the Brooklyn Music School Playhouse put on a tremendous show!"

Performances of "A Brooklyn Nutcracker" continue on Saturday, December 14th, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, December 15th, at 3:00 p.m. The Brooklyn Music School, is located at 126 St. Felix Street, in the Fort Greene neighborhood, just around the corner from BAM. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for children and students. For information or reservations, call 718-638-5660.
