OFFICE TITLE: Transportation Associate

The Brooklyn Borough President’s Office seeks a Transportation Associate to assist Brooklyn residents, organizations and businesses on transit and transportation matters (including pedestrian and bikeway matters). The Transportation Associate will have the following responsibilities:
- Assist constituents and organizations in resolving transit and transportation matters
- Provide technical assistance to the Borough President’s Office, constituents and organizations on transit and transportation matters
- Keep abreast of federal, state and city transit and transportation programs and projects and assist the above in understanding such programs and projects
- Serve as transit and transportation liaison to the Brooklyn Borough Service Cabinet and Brooklyn Borough Board
- Serve as a Borough President liaison to relevant transportation agencies and organizations.
- Represent the Borough President at meetings and hearings on transit and transportation matters
- Prepare correspondence, remarks and briefings for the Borough President
- Maintain a database and map of all major transit and transportation projects planned or underway in the borough
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent communication skills (unedited electronic writing samples will be required from each final candidate)
- General knowledge of New York City’s transit and transportation infrastructure;
- Strong research skills
- Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access, etc.)
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college in economics, finance, public administration, urban planning, urban planning studies or other related fields
- Experience required (internships are acceptable)
- NYC residency required
- NY State driver’s license required at time of appointment

Energetic individual needed to serve in the area of youth services, including violence prevention, summer employment, summer camp, college awareness, and HIV/AIDS. Responsibilities include serving as liaison to providers, government agencies, and community-based organizations; responding to constituent concerns; producing and directing projects, events, and initiatives to promote efforts of the Borough President’s Office; representing the Borough President at borough and citywide events and meetings; researching and analyzing federal, state, and city budgets, legislation, initiatives, and issues. Requirements: NYC residency; excellent writing, interpersonal, and public-speaking skills; BA/BS degree; three years of community-affairs experience; and NYS driver’s license. Knowledge of city government, community boards, and neighborhoods in the borough of Brooklyn a plus.
